A Little About Me
I'm a passionate advocate for the end user, as well as, my clients. I want the work done right. I'm very detail-oriented, but I can roll with it when we just gotta get it done. I'm a doer, a maker, and a problem solver–always curious and eager to learn new things.

In my UX career, I've worked collaboratively across diverse teams and across a network of offices around the country. I prefer face-to-face, but I'm great at working with remote teams. I've worked on everything from major brands to small non-profits. I'm involved in all stages of the project and serve as lynchpin and gut-check: if requirements change, which they often do, I work to ensure this doesn't negatively impact user needs, business goals or usability best practices.

I live in Seattle with my wife, Meghan and our two sons, Oskar and Milo.
"Mark is an awesome IA professional with great technical skills and especially with great creative vision...he has a true passion for good ideas."
– Suzana Apelbaum, Head of Creative at Google
UX Process/Documentation
My approach to UX involves a thorough grounding in research and documentation. You can't design a system without understanding who it's for and what their needs are. And most importantly, what your client's business goals are. To get to a great product, I engage in/create the following activities/documentation.
01 Discovery
  • Stakeholder Interviews
  • User Interviews
  • User Research
  • User Testing
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Audience Identification
  • Content Inventories & Audits
02 Define
  • Business Goals
  • User Personas
  • User Stories
  • User Journeys
  • User Flows
  • Site Maps & Taxonomies
  • Functional/Content Requirements
03 Design

  • User Testing
  • Functional Specifications
04 Build

Begin again
This isn't a step–it's a philosophy of iterative improvement. Design trends shift. User needs change. Evolve or die.

Websites
I've led UX on a variety of projects – everything from single-page sites thrown up over night to help a client mitigate a crisis to 1000 page site overhauls lasting months.
